Why teaching yoga is leaping
December 7, 2019

The year is drawing to a close and three books that have made my year, by changing my habits and behaviors this year are:
So good they can’t ignore you – Cal Newport
Give and Take – Adam Grant
Playing Big – Tara Mohr

The last, Playing Big I recently finished both audio and rented copy, it has journaling questions at the end of each chapter, something I love in books as lessons become ingrained when I explore my inner self.

My word of the year art, hung in a frame on my bedroom wall features the word leap, it says ‘Learn, Leap, Lead’, all these I have been doing in my year, sometimes with effort and other times they just flowed.
Tara Mohr explains a leaping as:

“Something that gets you playing bigger now, it can be started and finished in two weeks, a simple action described in a short phrase, it gets your adrenaline flowing. It puts you in contact with those you want to reach or influence”.

Teaching Kundalini Yoga is leaping, as once you have studied (with a school) you go out and teach. Whether it be to three or thirty people, if you feel nervous, take the leap. Feeling not ready or seeing if it will work out, take the leap.

You don’t need another course or a round of studying to simply be there in the moment and teach. Recite the teacher’s oath and teach, leap, lead.

Yogi Bhajan, the master who bought Kundalini Yoga to the West, told people he wasn’t here to make students but to create teachers. Was he also creating leaders? Taking people away from ‘good student’ (another great chapter) to strong leaders and motions of leading instead of following.

There are many ways to leap and lead, I feel I am just getting started! What gets you excited and willing to follow through with it?
