This age of influence: 3 Keys to Authentic choice making and taking action
April 29, 2020

I finished a book last week that got me thinking about the way personal development is heading and peoples decision making, in 2020 and beyond. That being said, I would give it a 4/10 so I won’t be sharing it here, it is a very popular book with a bright yellow cover and catchy title. It was a gift, even so it would have gone from my Wishlist to my hands at some point.

It could be because I’m an avid reader and (without sounding egotistical) I read books that are deep, thoughtful and poetic. I love to read broadly, it makes me a better writer too which is why reading books like this one could alter my writing style and with the power to do that comes my state of mind, decisions, buying ability.

It’s as if things are getting less authentic and more taking bits and pieces from someone else with or without credit. It’s as if the phrase – done is better than perfect – a term I used is getting a little over used so people can push sales.

The new age of Influencers and social media content is astounding and I’m glad to be in it a very minimal amount. I did a digital declutter at the start of the year.

My word for the year 2020 is Authentic, from the epidemic of Covid19 and reading another book with a catchy title that didn’t sit right, I feel guided by these 3 Key elements to authentic living right now:

  • Deepen your knowledge from those you already follow in Business, Creativity and other life areas rather than something that wafts your way because an internet bot put it right in front of you. I’ve done this lately with 3 Ladies I love – A business woman, a yoga teacher and author. They have been here this entire time, I finally decided to jump in further.

  •  Go for old – older books ie. writers that are no longer around or something published over 10 years ago may have more benefit as times were simpler and they get message across and powerfully without a trendy title and quoting people a lot. Authors I love include Ralph Waldo Emerson, Wayne Dyer, Martha Beck, Clarissa Pinkola and Naploen Hill.

  • Create your stuff, authentically and share it. As I write this I’m part way through putting together an E-Course, had this health epidemic hadn’t of happened and I hadn’t of let go of social media’s grip, I don’t know I would have been so focused on one goal. It reminds me to have a one point focus and, from a community I’m learning from, there are wonderful creative people out there authentically doing the same to guide people to learn and empower themselves.

Share your thoughts and ideas with me! Are you a creator finding your authentic voice?
